Hohn air base is located near Rendsburg, in the north of Germany, close to Denmark. Hohn is the homebase of Lufttransportgeschwader 63. LTG 63 flies with the famous UH-1D Huey helicopters and another workhorse; the C-160D Transall. In july 1968, the first C-160D Transall arrived at its new homebase. Transalls flew - and still fly - all over the world, executing missions for e.g. the United Nations. They also supported the IFOR, SFOR and KFOR troops. Not only LTG 63 is based at Hohn. A civil company, GFD (Gesellschaft für Flugzieldarstellung mbH) also operates from this air base. This company operates several versions of the Learjet and provide e.g. air target presentation with and without target towing, electronic warfare training, testflights for weapon systems, evaluation and qualification and meteorological research flights. On the 2nd of September 2004, a visit was made to Hohn, including a short visit to the flightline of GFD. I would like to thank the personnel of LTG 63 and GFD for their hospitality. |

At the time that this photograph was made, nine C-160D Transalls were parked on the flightline at Hohn. At some days, there are many parked here. And sometimes there is not even one Transall parked on the flightline. |
Two Transalls of LTG 63 recieved a white color scheme. These aircraft can be used for missions serving the United Nations. This example, serial 50+87, is seen here parked on the flightline at Hohn. Every unit that operates the Transall, has two white painted aircraft in its inventory. |

Another Transall, serial 51+09, wears a regular color scheme. |
| This Transall, the 50+65, just returned from a mission. There is still a lot of sand all over the aircraft. In the background you can see the other white Transall (the 50+50) of LTG 63 parked in a hangar. |

UH-1D Hueys are used for e.g. Search and Rescue missions. Several UH-1D Hueys are assingned to LTG 63. A toned down batch of LTG 63 is hardly visible, but painted on the door of this UH-1D, serial 71+40. |
Not military, but the GFD fly a variety of missions depending on the demands of the Bundeswehr. The Gesellschaft für Flugzieldarstellung mbH operates from Hohn with several variants of the Learjet. Learjet 36A, D-CGFC is seen here while they are refuelling the aircraft prior to its departure for another mission. Another Learjet 36A, serial D-CGFI, was parked on the GFD-flightline. |
