2 September 2004, on this day the last photo call was held at Naval Air Station Eggebek, northern Germany. The homebase of Marinefliegergeschwader 2 will close in the future and MFG 2 will be disbanded. The 2nd of September was also a tragical day for MFG 2, on this day the first two Tornados left their homebase and from that day these Tornados didn't belong to MFG 2 anymore. The beginning of the end. Every month, two aircraft will leave their homebase. In June 2005, the last Tornados will leave NAS Eggebek. Several types of aircraft were flown by the pilots of the 2nd Marinefliegergruppe, later renamad to Marinefliegergeschwader 2. They flew with the Fairy Gannet, Seahawk, Piaggio P.149D, Fouga Magister, F-104G Starfighter and since 1986 they fly with the Tornado. Last year, they were celebrating 45 years of MFG 2.

Tornado, serial 46+12, is seen here returning from the morning mission.

A two-ship formation is seen here leaving NAS Eggebek.

A well known Tornado, the 45+30. This Tornado recieved its special livery last year. The Marine was celebrating the 45th anniversary of the unit and 90 years of naval aviation in Germany. Another photograph of this aircraft is published on the Eggebek open house page on this site.

Another Tornado wearing special markings. The color scheme of the 46+20 was applied in 2001.
